After attempting to lighten her naturally black hair herself, which resulted in orange hair, college student Helene turned to professionals at the John Frieda salon. Using a hair painting technique called "baliage" they created a lovely color that blends naturally
Name: Helene
Age: 20
Occupation: College student
Why I want to go blonde: "I just wanted to try a different look. Once I bleached my hair myself, but it came out orange! It's hard for people with naturally black hair to pull it off. I thought at a salon they could create a blonde that was sophisticated without looking like preteen angst."
Makeover created by: John Frieda Salon , New York City.
Colorist Emily used a hair-painting technique called
"baliage" to add highlights to Helene's hair. She said
Helene's former attempt turned her hair orange
because she didn't leave the chemicals on long
enough. It's a tricky equation, though -- leave them
on too long and they could cause your hair to break!
Stylist Zhanna adds shape to Helene's hair but
doesn't want to trim too much. She just snipped
away some of the "heaviness" of the hair around her
face, to add to a "lighter" look.
