A simple sleek updo and soft makeup with the emphasis on the eyes created the perfect complement to Kate's strapless, lacy wedding gown. With all the details worked out in advance, Kate could focus on enjoying her very special day.
Name: Kate
Age: 29
Occupation: Project manager at iVillage
Kate wants to be herself on her wedding day; she rarely wears makeup and tends to keep her hair in a ponytail. Mallory from One-2-One Studio suggested that Kate keep her makeup soft, with an emphasis on her eyes. The key to bridal hair? "Work with the dress," says Maread. "If the dress is very simple, your hair can be more complicated. If your dress has lots of details, embroidery or lace, keep the hair simple." For Kate's strapless, lacy bodice, they decided on a very simple, sleek and sophisticated updo.

After blow-drying Kate's hair for added shine, Maread pulls her hair back into a sleek, modern chignon.
Here, Maread adds decorative combs to hold Kate's hair in place.
Mallory lightly applies a liquid powder to Kate's T-zone to minimize shine. (She uses Shine Eliminator, from her line, MYR, Inc.) She follows that with a sheer foundation (but not powder), which will contribute to the bride's overall glow.
To "open up" and offset Kate's hazel eyes, Mallory applies eyeliner and, here, a wine-colored mascara. To avoid clumping, apply mascara to only the tips of the lower lashes, moving the wand crosswise, as seen here.
Don't forget to powder all the exposed skin. It will help keep skin matte for photos.
