Preparing for her first gallery show, artist Rachel asked for a makeover that would redefine her natural beauty so she would be super sleek and modern. See what happened when she got what she wanted..

Name: Rachel
Occupation: Artist
Challenge: Glam look for her opening night
Normally, Rachel is more interested in painting canvases than painting her face. But for her first gallery opening, she's willing to make an exception. The mission: Get a glam new evening look. The complication: The hair-color horror of a botched bleach job. Can she do it all in time to have it all?
Makeover created by: Bernarsky Studios

Rachel's naturally dark brown hair had been bleached (unsuccessfully), then dyed black... then faded to dull dark brown with brassy patches. Hair colorist and stylist Danielle applied a deep, warm shade of permanent, fade-resistant hair color, hitting roots first, then the lengths, then the brassy patches. After processing, rising and towel-drying, she blew out Rachel's curls, razor-cut the ends and created long mod bangs for extreme glamour.

For that flawlessly finished look, makeup artist Julia Newbold applied foundation all over Rachel's face and neck, going back and "building up" coverage on her T-zone. According to Julia, "When it comes to foundation, you need something that matches both your skin tone and undertone, or it's going to look fake. You also need something that lets you control the coverage, or it's going to look spotty."

To give Rachel's eyes a smoky, mysterious look, Julia applied a mascara with an included primer for extra thickness, then a smoky eyeliner, followed by charcoal-colored eyeshadows. "At her gallery opening, Rachel is going to be the star of the show," said Julia, "and she wants to look the part. By wearing smoky eyes under long, fringy bangs, she's putting on a bit of a peek-a-boo show every time she moves her head or poses for a photo." .

On Rachel's cheeks, Julia applied blush with a brush, working in a circular motion outward from the middle. For added contour, color was ever so lightly dusted on the chin and at the jawline as well. Julia's secret weapon: L'Oreal Blush Delice in Ginger Snap

On Rachel's lips, Julia applied two coats of a saturated lipgloss in a deep coral color. "I don't know why people are so afraid of coral and orange colors on the lips," she said. "When the color is glossy and worn by women with very golden and olive skin tones, it looks rich and radiant." Julia's secret weapon: L'Oreal Glam Shine Lipgloss in Muse
