The recent celebration of her 42nd birthday and her 20th anniversary at her job spurred Susan, a customer service manager, into reaching for yet another milestone - her first-ever foray into hair coloring. Here's how she did it.
Name: Sue
Age: 42
Occupation: Customer service director
Susan has reached two milestones recently: She turned 42 and celebrated her 20th anniversary at her job. "It's time for a fresher look," she said. She had never colored her hair before and was excited about the opportunity.
Since Susan had un-dyed or "virgin" hair, she applied her base color to the ends of her hair first, then moved the formula up to her crown. The reason: Her hair will need more time to process the ends than the roots will because the scalp heats up the coloring process at the crown and speeds it up. (If your hair has already been dyed you don't want the ends to get too much color, so you begin at the crown.)
After 25 minutes Susan rinsed out her base color in water and towel-dried it. She then combed her hair in her normal style and applied caramel-colored highlights.
To round out her makeover, Susan groomed and brushed her eyebrows and enhanced their shape using L'Oreal's brow pencil in taupe. She loved L'Oreal's Shine Delice sheer lip color in sugar plum
