Going back to work after an extended period can be overwhelming and intimidating. Computers are more advanced; BlackBerries are all the rage, and the overall pace of things has quickened. This is not to mention the stress of having to dress professionally again. The key to rebuilding a back-to-work wardrobe is buying versatile pieces that can mix and match easily. Here, we made over Joan, 47, who took time off from her career to raise a family and is now rejoining the corporate world.

Joan's PTA Look

Joan came to us because she was heading back into the workforce after taking many years off to raise three children. Among duties like driving to and from soccer practice, planning meals and organizing school outings, Joan also volunteered at her local chapter of the Humane Society. The dress code for these activities required little more than Joan's uniform of oversized sweatshirts and her husband's baggy jeans, pictured here. Joan needed a total makeover: a new wardrobe composed of professional yet versatile clothing and accessories. Here's how we transformed her look from PTA to the corporate way.
