Donna's regular uniform was pretty much jeans and a sweatshirt. Unflattering striped sweaters and a Little House on the Prairie-inspired dress that swallowed her petite frame were her wardrobe staples. Stylebakery.com's Alison Deyette wanted Donna to try something different and unconventional that would flatter her figure. Keeping in mind Donna's petite figure, Alison shopped at stores that carry petite lines, so Donna could stop hiding behind oversized clothes.
After trying on several outfits, Alison picked this strapless tartan taffeta dress from J.Crew. The trendy plaid print with its fitted body and full skirt is an extremely flattering style for problem hips. It's a great holiday piece that can be dressed up or dressed down. "It's something that Donna might had picked out for her daughter but would never have dreamed that she could wear it herself", says Alison. "I wanted her to step out of her usual frame of reference," she adds.
Alison paired the dress with a beautiful black cardigan with a ruffled trim and a chain link belt from J.Crew to complete the evening look. Alison showed Donna how she could create different looks with the same dress by adding a cream cardigan for the daytime.
